College Hoops: Bobcat women head to UTSA
No matter the result of Texas State’s game, head coach Zenarae Antoine proclaimed in the post-game press conference that she loved where her team stood. Antoine’s statement raised some eyebrows when the Bobcats struggled through two losing streaks in conference play, but those words finally gained some traction recently.
After Texas State hung on for a 68-63 win over fourth-place Louisiana Tech last Saturday, momentum might finally be on the side of Antoine’s team. That win snapped a six-game losing streak at home and put the Bobcats on the right path with junior forward Ashley Ezeh due back soon.
“Even though our record isn’t one that shows it, I love fighting with this team,” Antoine said after last Saturday’s victory. “It feels good, but I know we have another tough one coming up with UTSA.”
Texas State fell to the Roadrunners earlier this season, 54-46. Late in the second half, the Bobcats closed UTSA’s lead to 50-46, but couldn’t get any closer.
Three players scored in double figures for Texas State on Jan. 19 and if that happens again this time, Antoine’s team should be in good shape.
With a win, the Bobcats could jump New Mexico State for eighth place in the WAC. The Roadrunners sit in fifth.
