Armando Roel Garcia, also known as “Guero,” was born on April 25, 1930 in San Marcos to Domingo and Angelina Garcia. Armando passed away on Friday, Aug. 9 and will be buried at Memory Lawn Memorial Park, Martindale,with full military honors.
Armando is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margie of San Marcos and one son and two daughters: Ernie and Terri Garcia of Frisco, Evelyn Garcia and Sharon Moore of Austin and Liz and Todd McGrew of Coppell. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Bobby Garcia and Alex Garcia and Anna Hastings, and one great- granddaughter Isabella. He is survived by two sisters, Alice and Pete Mendez of San Antonio and Viola Garcia of Mill Creek, Washington.
Armando is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Arturo Garcia.
Armando served two years in the Army before joining the Air Force. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves for 26 years and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. In 1968, he was called into active duty to Japan during the Pueblo Incident.
Following his military service, Armando worked Civil Service at Randolph Air Force Base in Universal City for 31 years. He retired in 1986.
Armando was a lover of sports, an avid golfer and had a great sense of humor. He coached Little League baseball and girls softball for many years. He was an active member of the American Vets, GI Forum, USGA and PAGA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, CTMC Hospice, American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
